The purpose of this assignment is to synthesize one strategy for the application of a specific nursing theory to resolving a problem issue of nursing practice in nursing leadership.

CONTENT OF PAPER:

1) Introduction to the paper includes a few general statements on the idea of nursing theory being applied to solve problems/issues in nursing practice, regardless of the specialty area of practice. For example, why would one pick a nursing theory to solve a practice problem? Would a grand, middle-range, or practice theory be best? Does the writer have any experience in using nursing theory in this way? In addition, a brief one paragraph summary of a specific nursing theory and information on sections of the paper are provided. The selected nursing theory can be a grand theory, a middle-range theory, or a practice theory.

2) Description of the problem/issue for which strategies will be developed. The problem to be resolved must be in nursing leadership. Scholarly evidence (in the form of a literature review) supporting the issue s included. The problem/issue could be a local to one's specific practice setting. For example, the setting might be a nursing unit. The problem/issues needs to be something that a nursing theory can impact, whether it solves the actual problem/issue to deal with it. It is best if the problem/issue is from real-life something the writer of the paper has dealt with or is currently engaged in.

*****A good problem/issue would be nurse-to-patient ratio in an acute-care nursing setting and it's impact on nursing leadership.

Understanding the Needs of African American Children and Adolescents

This Assignment will require you to review a case study and design an intervention in order to demonstrate cross-cultural competence. Please read or view the following case study and answer the questions that follow.

Case Study

View the case study.

You are a school psychologist at an elementary school, and Mrs. Moran came to see you today for a consultation, because she is concerned about a student in her class. Tyrel is a six-year-old African American boy in her first-grade class. She has concerns about Tyrel's academic achievement and his social interactions. He is having trouble with his reading assignments. In addition to that, he is sometimes withdrawn and at other times he is aggressive, lashing out for no apparent reason. She has tried to talk to Tyrel, but he just seems very upset when she asks is what is happening at home. When she attempted to arrange times for a parent-teacher conference, she asked Tyrel if she had passed the notes along to his parents.

Tyrel told his teacher that his father could not miss work to come in for a conference or he would be fired. Mrs. Moran called Tyrel's home and spoke with the boy's mother. She confirmed that her husband was not able to attend a meeting during the day and stated that she has three young children at home and could not afford to pay someone to watch them while she attends a conference. Tyrel's mom confided that they were being evicted and would be moving to the homeless shelter, so she was not sure if Tyrel would be in school for a few weeks. Tyrel later told Mrs. Moran that his parents did not respond to the teacher's notes because they were embarrassed about the eviction and that his mother could not read.

Supply Chain Cost Management

Fall-2013
Master of Business Administration - MBA Semester 4
SC0009–Supply Chain Cost Management-4 Credits
(Book ID: B1664)
Assignment (60 Marks)

Note: Answers for 10 marks questions should be approximately of 400 words. Each question is followed by evaluation scheme. Each Question carries 10 marks 6 X 10=60.
Q1. Elucidate the measures that organizations can take to align their supply chain with that of their customers.
Answer. In today's economic environment, doing what you've always done—even if you do it very well—is no longer acceptable. Under pressure to contain costs and produce results despite challenging circumstances, you (and many other supply chain managers) must transform rather than simply improve your operation. That means adopting the philosophies, methods, and processes that will make your organization "best in class." Effective supply chain strategies are essential to the performance of most businesses. Surprisingly, many businesses, even at the top end of town, have supply chain strategies that are

Q2. Briefly discuss the eight steps of the AIM & DRIVE Process for cost management.
Answer. The word "strategy" has been defined in the Random House Dictionary to mean, "a series of strategisms". It is a series of ideas, actions and methodologies that direct a team, organization, company or supply chain toward a common, predetermined goal. A strategy is like a river. It originates with a concept or idea (like a spring). When a problem is encountered, the strategy team falls back on its pre agreed plan of action to tackle the problem, using innovation and flexibility to deal with unforeseen situations.
The Aim & Drive Process, once you have convinced yourself that there is an alternative to the slash and burn, hatchet job in reducing costs, the logical next step is to come up with a process that helps manage costs through the supply

Q3. What are the different approaches developed to assess the sustainability performance of the supply chain?
Answer. Supply chain sustainability is a business issue affecting an organization’s supply chain in terms of environmental costs, risk and social impact costs. Sustainable inputs generate sustainable products, a prerequisite for sustainable – and thus survivable – organizations. The metrics used for the measurement of sustainability (involving the sustainability of environmental, social and economic domains, both individually and in various combinations) are still evolving: they include indicators, benchmarks, audits, indexes and accounting, as well as assessment, appraisal and other reporting systems.

Q4. Explain how organizations can apply web 2.0 technology to communicate new ideas.
Answer. Web applications have undergone significant change over the last decade; ten years ago, there were no Web-sharing sites or applications, merely sites composed of static pages or ecommerce applications. Companies that had customer-facing Web sites were able to connect with Internet-savvy consumers and use their Web sites as channels to market and sell their products; corporate intranets were used mainly as places to post news and company policies. More recently, Web sites have become destinations for communities of

Q5. Explain the three ways that help customers to extract vital cost information about a particular service or product.
Answer. Information extraction (IE) is the task of automatically extracting structured information from unstructured and/or semi-structured machine-readable documents. In most of the cases this activity concerns processing human language texts by means of natural language processing (NLP). Recent activities in multimedia document processing like automatic annotation and content extraction out of images/audio/video could be seen as information extraction.

Costs Associated With Manufactured Products
As Chilton's Distribution observes, there are myriad potential costs associated with selling a product which may be

Q6. How do you develop strategic options for selected cost drivers?
Answer. Approaches to Strategy
In a for-profit company, for which competition and profitability are important, your goals will differ from those of a nonprofit or government department. Likewise, objectives for a department or team will have a different scope from objectives for your organization as a whole.
To determine your strategy, you must understand fully the internal and external environmental factors that affect you. With that understanding, you can identify your clear advantages and use these to be successful. From there,

Inputs at Whole Foods Market

Background Reading for Case 3
The background reading for the Case in this module focuses on the Nadler-Tushman Congruence Model. You will be using this model to complete the case.
David Nadler is the founder and CEO of Mercer Delta Consulting Group. An internationally recognized expert in organizational change, Nadler has written seven books and numerous articles for practicing managers. Michael Tushman is a Full Professor at the Harvard Business School. He has written or edited eight books and is widely published in academic and practitioner journals.
Required reading:
Nadler, D. A. &Tushman, M. L. (1980) A Model for Diagnosing Organizational Behavior. Organizational Dynamics, 9 (2), 35-51. Retrieved on November 7, 2012 from EBSCO.
According to the authors, "Our congruence model of organizational behavior is based on how well components fit together – that is the congruence among components; the effectiveness of this model is based on the quality of these ‘fits’ or ‘congruence.’ (p.39).
From the reading, you will note that there are four input categories. They are as follows:
  1. Environment (factors external to the organization);
  2. Resources (factors internal to the organization);
  3. Organizational history (Persistent Traditions); and
  4. Strategy (goals, objectives and strategic initiatives) .

If the link to the article does not work, it is probably because your computer does not allow "cookies" which would let you connect directly to the library. In such a case, you will need to connect manually to the appropriate database.
Optional Reading for the Case:
The following is an interesting, updated, and highly recommended peer-reviewed journal article relating to organizational diagnosis. Following is the Abstract:
Abstract:
Using an operational framework, the diagnostic funnel is introduced, which prescribes the appropriate actions of a process consultant in conducting an organizational diagnosis. The diagnostic funnel comprises the four actions of (a) selecting a general diagnostic model, (b) collecting data that minimizes bias, (c) analyzing the data to reduce the likelihood of error, and (d) deriving a unique diagnostic paradigm, specific to the organization under study. It is argued that the actions described by the diagnostic funnel will result in a diagnosis that achieves a high level of scientific rigor. To provide a detailed description of the diagnostic funnel, a case example of an organizational diagnosis is presented.

BACKGROUND
XCG
The Excellent Consulting Group
Communication from Art:
I reviewed your report regarding Organizational Diagnosis, and I thought you did a nice job. I presented your recommendation to ABC Company and Whole Foods Market, and had several discussions with them.
They've finally decided that they want to use the Nadler-Tushman Congruence Model to analyze the overall congruence in the company – they like the Input and Output analysis that this model provides.
First, the company's executives are interested in the Inputs, including the strategy. They are interested in getting an objective opinion of what their critical inputs are and how they align with their strategy. So I suggest that you very quickly brush up more on the Congruence model, particularly for this assignment on inputs.
REQUIRED READING:
Nadler, D. A. &Tushman, M. L. (1980) A Model for Diagnosing Organizational Behavior. Organizational Dynamics, 9 (2), 35-51. Retrieved on November 7, 2012 from EBSCO.
CASE 3 ASSIGNMENT:
Using the Nadler-Tushman Congruence Model, conduct an analysis of Whole Foods Market's inputs and how they align with the strategy.
For the analysis, I suggest that you start with strategy, since you have already done some work on this aspect in your first report. Review Whole Foods Market’s strategy and then determine which one of Porter’s competitive strategies fits with this strategy. Then review the company’s inputs and determine one or two specific critical inputs from each input category: environment, resources, and history.
Ultimately, I want you to determine how aligned the critical inputs are with the strategy. Is there high congruence (alignment), some congruence, or little to no congruence? I expect you to support your claim with a good, logical argument using the information you have collected.
In order to make this case, you first need to review the strategy and then classify it as one of Porter’s competitive strategies. Then identify the Key Input factors in the first three categories. Explain why these are the critical input factors. Then determine how congruent the three input factors are with the strategy.
Be sure to include references. Turn in the 4- to 6-page paper by the end of the module.

KEYS TO THE ASSIGNMENT:
Case Expectations:
  1. Discuss the organization’s strategy and classify it according to Porter’s three generic competitive strategies.
  2. Identify the most critical inputs in each of the first three categories and justify why they are critical. Also explain what effect the inputs from one category have on inputs from the other categories. How well does the strategy fit with the environmental, resource and historical inputs you identified?
  3. Make a Case for your proposition as to how the Key Inputs support (are congruent with) the Strategy. Specifically make a claim: “The inputs at Whole Foods Market consisting of Organizational Environment factors, Internal Resource factors, and Historical Tradition factors are [highly, partially, or minimally] congruent with the company’s strategy.”
  4. Support your analysis with objective evidence. Sources of information for the entire project may include interviews, organizational documents and reports, articles in newspapers, and trade publications. Be sure to cite your sources and provide a list of references.
Write up your report in a 4- to 6-page paper and submit it by the end of the module.
ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS
Your paper will be evaluated on the following seven points:
  • Precision - Does the paper address the question(s) or task(s)?
  • Breadth - Is the full breadth of the subject, that is, the Keys to the Assignment, addressed?
  • Depth - Does the paper address the topic in sufficient depth and include the background readings and other background resources as references?
  • Critical thinking - Is the subject thought about critically, that is, accurately, logically, relevantly, and precisely?
  • Clarity - Is the writing clear and are the concepts articulated properly? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding to the questions or are points conveyed through excessive use of quotations?
  • Organization - Is the paper well written?  Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work?  Are headings included in all papers longer than two pages?
  • Referencing (citations and references) - Does the paper include citations and quotation marks where appropriate?  Are the references from the background readings and assignment present and properly cited?  Are all the references listed in the bibliography present and referred to via citation?

Understanding and supporting behavior

Case Study 2

Emma is in Year 5 and is nine years old. She attends a mainstream primary school.
Since starting year 5 her teacher has noted that Emma has become increasingly disruptive in class by calling out, swearing, and refusing to work with pupils who are not in her friendship group. She becomes argumentative and confrontational when the teacher or learning support assistant tries to intervene to sort out the problem and get her back on task. She is often sent to see the headteacher where she seems happy to sit and chat with the school secretary. Emma is working slightly below her age appropriate National Curriculum levels. Emma says she hates school but likes play and lunchtimes. She states that lessons are ‘boring’ except for PE and drawing cartoon faces. She often refuses to take her book bag or homework tasks home. There are no reported incidences of bad behaviour at playtime or lunchtime.
Home life seems settled but on speaking to Emma’s mother the teacher gained the impression that things were strained since Emma’s grandma had moved in. Emma’s mother was very defensive of her daughter and was irritated by the school constantly ‘moaning’ about Emma’s behaviour.
