In Utilitarianism he often positions himself as defending his "principle of utility" or Greatest Happiness Principle against criticisms from Kantians. Explain the central tenants of utilitarianism (including the principle of utility and utilitarian calculus) and then contrast them with the tenants and methods of the "intuitive school." How does Mill defend utilitarianism (consequential more broadly) against Kant's deontology? What does he believe is deficient in Kant's ethics?
