Explication 1: Araby

This essay will be on the short story called Araby by James Joyce. Should be focus in great depth on the passages. an explication involves the close analysis and an unfolding or discovery of the language of written work. introduction, body, conclusion. begin with a general statement or thesis about the material you are examining, summarizing its significance and its connection to work as a whole, if it is a passage from a larger work.

Examine the imagery evoked by the words and consider any connotations or associated meanings that might color the way a reader would interpret the piece. look ar the word choices or diction and try to discuss the sound of the language as well. which is often important in fiction and drama as well as poetry. look for figures of speech such as metaphors and similes and try to decode any allusions. write the explication of a detective unraveling the clues in the work. this often requires you to be imaginative and to pursue fully even the slights suggestions.
