Consider Your Audience
"For your beginning research, you really want to change a small piece of the world."
Nina Nabors, PhD (Citation from Course DVD)

When you expand upon the body of knowledge in your field, the findings that you present may influence one reader, who may in turn influence others. How to present your research findings appropriately to your audienceand knowing who your audience isrequire a thoughtful strategy. In this week's Discussion, you will consider the members of that "small piece of the world" about which Dr. Nabors speaks, and the potential for social change.

Potential harmful effects of Media Consumption

 Introduction to Media and Society
Fourth Assignment: Solutions

This semester we have covered several different potential effects of media consumption.  For this paper, you need to choose a potentially harmful effect we’ve addressed in class and propose a solution to help mitigate that effect.

As you write your paper, here are specific questions to answer:

  1. Describe the potentially harmful effect you are targeting. Provide detailed information about what is known about this effect (what type of content causes it, what type of person is most affected, etc.), drawing on course material (lectures and/or the readings) for your answer.
  1. Propose a practical solution for this media effect.  Provide detailed information about what your solution involves.
  1. Discuss why we would have reason to believe that the solution you are proposing would work.  Again, use material from the course to support your answer.
All parts of the assignment must be typed.  The essays combined should not exceed 3 total pages of double spaced text (not counting references). Use one-inch margins, a regular font style (e.g., Times New Roman), and size.  Assignments must be submitted to Oncourse.  Be sure you receive e-mail confirmation of your submission.
